TNC Elsevier Overview: Subscriptions

This guide provides TNC researchers with information on the Elsevier platform specific to TNC's subscription. It also helps users learn about platform features and functionality, and determine whether Elsevier can aid in their research.

Subscription Summary

The TNC E-Collection provides users with selections from the ScienceDirect Subject Collection, two complete titles, and Elsevier's open access materials. See the sections below for details on each Elsevier product included in the TNC E-Collection and scroll to the bottom of the page for title lists. 

ScienceDirect Subject Collection

Elsevier's ScienceDirect Subject Collection is a platform that offers interdisciplinary research and scholarship through thousands of peer-reviewed journals in numerous subject areas. The TNC E-Collection provides researchers with access to three groupings within the Science Direct Subject Collection:

  • Agricultural & Biological Sciences Collection: This includes 294 journals and 4,179 books (e-books and hard copies) 

  • Economics, Econometrics, & Finance Collection: This subject collection consists of 168 journals and 1,426 books (e-books and hard copies)

  • Environment Science Collection: This collection provides access to 256 journals and 2,268 books (e-books and hard copies)

Complete Titles

Two complete titles published by Elsevier are also included in the TNC E-Collection:

  • Global Environmental Change: Peer-reviewed, international journal with a strong focus on social science that works to advance knowledge about the human and policy dimensions of global environmental change. Key topics include the drivers, consequences and management of changes in biodiversity and ecosystem services, climate, coasts, food systems, land use and land cover, oceans, urban areas, and water resources.
  • World Development: Multi-disciplinary journal on development studies that explores ways of improving standards of living and the human condition. Contributions offer constructive ideas and analyses grounded in the experiences of diverse nations, societies, and economies. Issues examined include:

Environmental Degradation Malnutrition
Gender & Ethnic Discrimination Militarism & Civil Conflict

Complimentary Resources

Elsevier includes open access and free-to read resources as well, materials that are available to users regardless of their subscriptions. Open access materials are available into perpetuity while free-to-read materials are available on a temporary basis: 

  • 2360 open access or free-to-read journals
  • 150,000 open access articles in journals that offer some open access publishing
  • 44 open access e-books
