Platypus in Art

Painting of platypus by W. Kuhnert, cWellcome Coll

Color lithograph of a platypus by Wilhelm Kuhnert (date unknown).

For illustrative purposes, Kuhnert shows the platypus' front foot webbing fully extended. In reality, this only happens while the platypus is swimming. On land, this skin folds under the front feet for easier walking and burrowing.
