Distribution

Northwestern Madagascar (from Andriaholinirina et al. 2014 unless otherwise noted)

  • North and east of the Betsiboka River
    • Northern and eastern-most population near Bealanana
    • Southern-most occurrence near Ambato-Beoeni

Populations fragmented

  • Isolated pockets of dry forest
    • Separated by wide-open landscapes (Kun-Rodrigues et al. 2004)

Habitat

Forest inhabitant (from Mittermeier et al. 2010 unless otherwise noted)

  • Tropical-dry, lowland forests
    • Mixed-deciduous trees
    • Brush-and-scrub and secondary formations immediately adjacent to primary forest
  • Coastal mangroves in the Bay of Mahajamba (Mittermeier et al. 2013)

Elevation range

  • 0-300 m (0-984 ft) (Andriaholinirina et al. 2014)

Climatic records, northwestern Madagascar (from Richard 1974 unless otherwise noted)

  • Annual rainfall
    • 150-300 cm (59-118 in) (Petter 1962)
    • Distinct annual wet and dry seasons across the distribution (Petter 1962; Richard 1974)
      • < 1% of annual rainfall may occur in the dry season (July-September) (Richard 1978)
  • Temperature range
    • Mean maximum temperature: c. 38.5oC
    • Mean minimum temperature: c. 14oC
